The work
FIGURE STUDY VII — Unravelling is the most unstable work in the series.
The figure still holds her posture, but the painting itself begins to dissolve around her. Loose strands cross the face. Dark gestural brushwork tears through the lower half of the composition — restless, atmospheric and uncontrolled.
Unlike the sharper tension of the earlier works, this piece moves differently. The force here is internal. Quiet. Gradual. The sensation is not collapse, but erosion.
Warm plaster tones, faded mineral reds and softened sand neutrals create a restrained surface that allows the black movement through the composition to feel heavier and more physical.
Printed on museum-quality archival matte paper, subtle tonal transitions, layered brushwork and painterly texture remain visible, creating a softer and more analogue viewing experience.
The work reads less as portraiture and more as emotional architecture held in motion.
This is not the stillness of control.
It is the moment control begins to loosen.
