The Work
The composition is built through fractured surfaces, softened architectural traces, and restrained blocks of tone. Warm ivory, chalk, stone, and muted sand create the ground of the work, interrupted by charcoal passages and a forceful red-brown gesture cutting across the surface. The image feels pared back, but never empty.
Rather than depicting a literal place, the work suggests the remains of structure. Faded markings, worn edges, and layered passages evoke walls that have carried time, use, and silence. The red diagonal brings tension into the stillness, preventing the piece from settling into decoration.
Its strength lies in restraint. The palette remains disciplined, the surface active without becoming noisy, and the composition balanced between rawness and control. The work holds atmosphere through material presence rather than image-making.
Presented on canvas, the work gains additional physical presence. The textured surface strengthens the layered neutrals, distressed marks, and red-brown gesture, giving the composition more depth and a stronger architectural presence on the wall.
What remains is weight without excess.
Nothing is overstated.
The surface says enough.
This is not art that decorates. It occupies.
