The work
MEDITERRANEAN STUDIES — The Clearing explores the moment when turbulence begins to break and light enters the landscape again.
Set on a weathered Mediterranean cliff above the sea, the work captures a solitary figure standing against wind and rising water as dark clouds divide around a powerful shaft of sunlight.
Her white garment is lifted by the storm, becoming part of the movement of the sea and sky. Waves strike the rocks below, while distant architecture remains suspended between shadow and illumination.
The figure does not resist the landscape. She stands within it — composed, exposed, and entirely present as the atmosphere changes around her.
Built through dramatic tonal contrast, expressive painterly texture, and directional Mediterranean light, the work draws from contemporary figurative painting traditions where the body and landscape carry equal emotional force.
What remains is release.
The feeling of standing still long enough for the sky to change.
A moment when light becomes possible again.
This is not art that decorates. It occupies.
