FIGURE STUDY VIII — Resistance explores restraint under force.
The figure faces forward, upright and composed, while the painting around her fractures outward in violent dark gestures. Black brushwork cuts across the body in opposing directions — disruptive, unstable, unresolved — but her posture remains controlled.
There is tension here, but not collapse.
The surface carries weight through contrast rather than movement alone. The darker mass pushes outward aggressively, while the quieter plaster tones hold the composition in balance. Hair breaks across the face in loose imperfect strands. The body remains still while the structure surrounding it resists containment.
This is not surrender. It is sustained pressure.
The palette is deliberately restrained — warm stone, aged plaster, muted sand, deep black — allowing the gestural marks to dominate without losing sophistication. The composition is architectural, emotionally controlled, and intentionally unresolved.
