The work
WALL STUDIES — Faultline explores the moment when structure gives way.

The composition is built through dense burgundy, oxblood, chalk, and weathered ivory, interrupted by a near-black vertical field at the right. The surface feels compressed and architectural, as though several layers have been pushed against one another until separation becomes inevitable.

A broad pale form moves diagonally through the centre of the work. Its edges are rough, scraped, and irregular, carrying the appearance of exposed material rather than a clean geometric division. It becomes the central fracture within the composition.

Across the upper field, a fine ochre-gold line curves through the heavier forms. Its delicacy stands against the weight surrounding it, tracing movement across a surface that otherwise feels fixed. Smaller scars, erased marks, and broken edges remain visible beneath the larger gestures.

Faultline is built on pressure rather than disorder. Burgundy carries heat. Black provides weight. Ivory creates rupture. The gold line introduces the smallest suggestion of continuation.

Presented on canvas, the work gains additional physical presence. The woven surface strengthens the distressed mineral passages, saturated burgundy, dark structural forms, and exposed painterly edges, allowing the composition to become increasingly architectural at larger scale.

What remains is the evidence of pressure.

The surface held.

Until it didn’t.

This is not art that decorates. It occupies.
