The work
MEDITERRANEAN STUDIES — The Open Window explores the private stillness of an old Mediterranean interior, where sea light, warm stone, moving curtains, and quiet reflection come together in a single suspended moment.
Set beside an open window overlooking the coast, the work captures the feeling of retreating from the outside world while still remaining close to it. The sea appears beyond the shutters, bright and expansive, while flowers climb around the window frame and sunlight falls across the stone ledge, curtain, figure, and floor.
The figure sits absorbed in her book, turned inward rather than performing for the viewer. Her presence gives the scene intimacy and warmth, while the open window creates a sense of possibility — a world beyond, held at a distance.
Built through warm tonal depth, painterly texture, and Mediterranean light, the work draws from contemporary figurative painting traditions where architecture, atmosphere, and the body carry equal emotional weight.
What remains is quiet.
The feeling of sitting beside an open window while the world continues beyond you.
A place where light enters slowly.
This is not art that decorates. It occupies.
