The work
WALL STUDIES — The Unsaid explores the presence of what is never fully expressed.
The surface is built through pale layers of chalk, warm stone, softened grey, and worn beige. Across this restrained ground, muted burgundy appears as a fragmented passage rather than a dominant gesture, while black marks interrupt the composition with greater certainty. Each element feels placed, erased, and partially recovered.
There is no literal subject. Instead, the work depends on tension between evidence and absence. Marks appear to have survived an earlier structure; some remain exposed, others disappear beneath successive layers. The composition refuses to resolve itself completely.
A dark vertical passage rises through the upper field while a compact charcoal form anchors the lower right. Against the quieter surface surrounding them, these interventions give the work its architecture. Burgundy moves differently — softer, less fixed, carrying the suggestion of something remembered rather than declared.
Presented on canvas, the work gains additional physical presence. The woven surface strengthens the layered mineral ground, faded pigment, distressed edges, and darker structural marks, giving the composition greater material depth without disturbing its restraint.
What remains is the weight of what was never said.
