WALL STUDIES — Redacted explores what remains visible after meaning has been obscured.

The composition is built on a restrained field of chalk, warm ivory, limestone, and softened beige. Across that quiet surface, two dark horizontal forms interrupt the work with blunt authority. They feel neither decorative nor accidental. Each one behaves like a barrier placed over something that once existed in full.

Around them, the surface carries evidence of time and revision. Faded marks, worn edges, and pale scraped passages give the work an architectural weight, as if the image has been layered, covered, and altered over time. Small traces of ochre and grey remain quiet within the field, adding warmth without softening its control.

The lower dark form releases a restrained burgundy passage that descends in a thin vertical bleed. It is the most exposed part of the work and the only point where the composition seems to give way. That single release changes the tone of the whole piece, introducing tension into an otherwise contained surface.

The strength of Redacted lies in its refusal to explain itself. The composition suggests removal, censorship, memory, and interruption without settling into illustration. What is withheld becomes part of the image.

Presented on canvas, the work gains additional physical presence. The woven surface strengthens the weathered mineral ground, the density of the dark horizontal forms, and the restrained burgundy bleed, giving the composition greater material depth and a stronger architectural presence on the wall.
