WALL STUDIES — Held Ground explores what remains firm under pressure.

The composition is built through layered olive, moss, weathered ivory, warm ochre, and black. Broad vertical and horizontal forms create an architectural field that feels grounded rather than expansive, as though the surface has been constructed to hold weight rather than movement.

A fine curved line travels across the lower half of the work, introducing a quieter tension through the composition. It does not dominate the surface. Instead, it registers as a measured intervention against the heavier forms surrounding it.

Black passages interrupt the softer mineral ground with greater certainty. Their edges are rough, scraped, and partially erased, allowing the work to retain evidence of its making. Ochre and sand-toned blocks warm the structure without softening it, while worn ivory passages keep the composition open enough to breathe.

Held Ground is defined by restraint. Nothing in the work asks for attention through noise. Its authority comes from balance, pressure, and the refusal to collapse into excess.

Presented on canvas, the work gains additional physical presence. The woven surface strengthens the layered mineral tones, dark structural marks, weathered edges, and controlled contrast, allowing the composition to feel increasingly architectural at larger scale.
