WALL STUDIES — Crosscurrent explores what happens when different forces occupy the same space.

The composition is built around a dense field of cobalt and deep mineral blue. Against it, a broad passage of weathered ivory descends through the upper right, interrupted by a dark vertical structure that gives the work its weight.

Rust and burnt orange appear at the edges and across the surface in fractured marks. They do not soften the blue. They push against it, creating a warmer current moving in another direction.

A thin ochre-gold line travels through the lower half of the work. Its arc cuts across the heavier forms with unusual lightness, introducing another movement without disturbing the structure beneath it.

Crosscurrent depends on opposition rather than balance. Blue against rust. Dark structure against exposed mineral surface. Horizontal movement against vertical weight. Each force remains distinct, yet none exists independently of the others.

The surface carries abrasion, scraped pigment, broken edges, and traces of earlier marks. Nothing feels polished or settled. The work retains the evidence of construction while remaining controlled.

Presented on canvas, the work gains additional physical presence. The woven surface strengthens the saturated blue, weathered ivory, dark structural passages, and rust-toned interruptions, allowing the composition to hold greater depth and authority at larger scale.

What remains is movement in more than one direction.
