The work
MEDITERRANEAN STUDIES — Windswept explores the force of movement against stillness, where sea air, fabric, skin, and light meet in a moment of quiet intensity.
Set along the Mediterranean shoreline, the work captures a woman standing close to the water as the wind pulls through her hair and dress. The white fabric becomes part of the landscape — lifted by air, shaped by sunlight, and echoed by the movement of the sea behind her.
The composition feels immediate but composed. The figure is strong, feminine, and self-contained, not decorative. Her presence carries the scene, while the coastline, blue water, and broken clouds create a sense of openness around her.
Built through thick painterly texture, coastal colour, and luminous contrast, the work draws from contemporary Mediterranean figurative painting traditions where the body, landscape, and atmosphere are held with equal weight.
What remains is movement.
