The work
MEDITERRANEAN STUDIES — The Pergola explores the quiet intimacy of Mediterranean shade, where architecture, garden light, and stillness gather around a single seated figure.
Set beneath an old stone pergola, the work captures a private moment at the edge of a garden. Sunlight filters through leaves and hanging flowers, falling across the table, dress, stone floor, fruit bowl, and surrounding greenery. The scene feels lived in, abundant, and calm — not staged, but held.
The figure sits quietly within the architecture, softened by light but not lost inside it. Her presence brings human warmth to the terrace, while the columns, vines, cypress, flowers, and table create a sense of place that feels both intimate and enduring.
Built through warm tonal depth, painterly texture, and broken Mediterranean light, the work draws from contemporary figurative painting traditions where the interior and exterior world meet — garden, body, architecture, and atmosphere held with equal weight.
What remains is shade.
The feeling of sitting somewhere beautiful without needing to leave.
A place where the day slows.
This is not art that decorates. It occupies.
