MEDITERRANEAN STUDIES — Rooted explores the quiet force of belonging to a place, where ancient olive trees, filtered sunlight, and earth-toned shadow create a sense of deep stillness.
Set within a Mediterranean olive grove, the work captures the feeling of standing beneath trees that have outlasted seasons, generations, and passing time. Their gnarled trunks rise with sculptural weight, forming a natural architecture around the figure.
The scene is intimate but expansive. Broken sunlight falls across dry ground, leaves, bark, and stone, creating a rhythm between shadow and gold. The figure stands quietly within the grove, not as the centre of the landscape, but as part of it.
Built through atmosphere, texture, and warm directional light, the work draws from contemporary Mediterranean figurative painting traditions where the landscape carries memory, presence, and emotional depth.
